Documents sometimes require one or perhaps two witnesses in addition to the Notary.
This is common for some South African property documents; Indian Powers of Attorney and some American documents. The witnesses have to witness your signature in the presence of the Notary so they will need to be present at the meeting.
At my offices I can usually ask one of my staff to act as the additional witness, as and when required. If the appointment is out of the office, at you home address or place of business, you will normally need to arrange for a witness to be present, I will normally advise you if this is necessary.
A witness to a legal document should be:
(i) 18 or over,
(ii) Independent and unrelated to you, and
(iii) Mentally capable of being a witness
